Goals, objectives, and activities
To introduce students to career opportunities within the oceanographic field.
To provide students with hands-on research and data collection using equipment invented and/or built by surrounding companies.
To reinforce concepts covered during the semester on habitats, adaptations, human influence, life zones and other topics dealing with the oceans.
How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
Students will be evaluated based upon their journal reflections, a formative assessment, and journal entry prompt.
Benefit to the students and the school
Provides students with more choices in the science field and makes them aware of the wealth of opportunities around the area for them in research, engineering and technology.
Budget (Please detail how funding will be used. Itemize as appropriate.)
The boat coast $600 so the funding will be used to cover a majority of the boat cost. Additional funding for the remainder and for transportation has already been covered by several other grants.
Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable.)
Due to the nature of the experience, the project will not happen until the end of April or May. This time is better for being out on the open water within the bay.
