Goals, objectives, and activities
The Wareham Middle School (WMS) Science and Math departments focus on real-world applications of science and mathematics for all students.
Our curriculum is designed to introduce students to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by demonstrating real-world applications.
The purpose of our proposal is to purchase weather monitoring and recording equipment for WMS that will allow the middle school students to record and broadcast current and long range weather conditions to the school and to the community.
How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
The data recorded will be used by students to provide a daily weather report in the daily announcement program at WMS. Also, the weather report will become a feature for the community to access online on the WMS website. In addition, classroom teachers can access the data and have students analyze and track the real-world data on an on-going basis. This grant will provide the WMS students with hands-on real-world technology to foster interest in future STEM careers. The success of the project will be evaluated.
Benefit to the students and the school
This new equipment will allow the recording of daily and long term weather conditions. The information gathered will be beneficial to the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade science & math classes to demonstrate and reinforce real-world applications of science, mathematics and technology. The weather recording equipment aligns with Next Generation Middle School Science Standards for Weather and Climate Systems, MS.ESS-WC (May 2012).

We will use the funding from this grant to help us purchase the Weather Station Starter Kit. HOBO U30-NRC Weather Station Starter Kit- U30-NRC-SYS-B $1000
Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable.)
The purchase of equipment, set up, and implementation of the Weather Station will take approximately 4-6 weeks.
