Touch & Grow

Project Description

Goals and objectives include using sensory integration activities which are designed to help children regulate and process information taken in through all of their senses. This increases the student’s ability to appropriately process sensory information. It reduces overt behaviors including spinning, rocking and hyperactivity which can interfere with learning and social functioning. Sensory play also assists with developing fine motor muscles and provides for a variety of textures to be explored throughout the day. Children learn by activating all 5 senses. By activating the senses you develop and strengthen the neuro pathways in the brain which promote learning.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)

Students will show improvement in attention. Students will demonstrate increased focus on learning tasks. These components of self-regulation will be evaluated using our “Tools of the Mind” curriculum, Social Emotional Checklist which is administered 3 times a year.

Benefit to the students and the school

Students will benefit from using sensory materials to increase attention to task(s) and improve student performance.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)

Once we receive the funds, appropriate materials and resources will be purchased as listed above. When these items are received, we will immediately make the materials accessible to all students for the current school year and have them available for future Kindergarten students.
