Project Description
Funds from this grant would be used to purchase three Sphero SPRK+ kits. This is a coding/robotics kit for my Engineering and Technology classes. Designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and invention through connected play and coding, SPRK+ is far more than just a robot. Powered by the Sphero Edu app, kids can easily learn programming, complete hands-on activities, and share their creations with the community.
Sphero Edu and SPRK+ will allow students to collaborate with other users around the globe. Equipped with Bluetooth SMART and a strong scratch-resistant UV coating, SPRK+ takes hands-on learning up a notch. SPRK+ will foster a love of robotics, coding, and STEAM.
Designed for learner progression, the Sphero Edu app allows students to program their robot 3 different ways.
Beginners can draw paths that represent code for their robot to follow. Intermediate coders can utilize the Scratch
block-based programming interface. Pros can use JavaScript and write text programs like a boss.
How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
The project will be evaluated by student enthusiasm and engagement with the robot. If it is successful I will order more for next year.
Benefit to the students and the school
Students benefit from hands on learning, and the Sphero SPRK is a great tool for that. It teaches coding, engineering, collaboration and other skills. This would be for students in grades 4-8 at all different levels.
Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
I would use these kits as soon as I got them.
