Sensory Classroom

Project Description
The students in my program have unique sensory needs as they all have been diagnosed with Autism.
Sometimes, an item that works well one day will not another. Sensory items are imperative to assist with
behavioral meltdowns. The items that I am requesting to purchase will build up my sensory toolbox thus assisting
the students to become productive members of our classroom.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
Sensory success is determined by the timeliness of a student with autism calming down after a meltdown. I will
introduce the items and log how long it takes for them to become regulated. At some point, the students should
be independently requesting to use items to self-regulate.

Benefit to the students and the school
This will help the well-being of not only the students in my program but also the students of the school as sometimes, my students have melt-downs in the hallway, auditorium, cafeteria, etc., and this can cause distress for students passing by.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
Items will be used throughout the school year.
