Robots: Build, Program to Build

BY Alan J Mahoney & Rebecca Solway

West Tisbury School

Project Description
Students will use these kits to understand construction of a robot and then it’s practical use in building projects (manufacturing).

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
Students will be able to complete building a robot and programming it’s ability to move objects from one point to another to complete a stack, or connect 3D printed parts. Increasing complexity of building tasks (oddly shaped objects, obstacles) make for problem solving skills that modern students will need in a rapidly flexing, evolving technological and creative thinking workspace.

Benefit to the students and the school
Groups will use the robots in sections so that each grade level will have an opportunity to build skills and experience in this school year.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
Goal is for students to exhibit this growth next October during the Massachusetts Computer Using Educators (MassCUE) Annual Conference at Gillette Stadium, in a presentation area called “KidsCUE”.
