Nathaniel H. Wixon Intermediate School

Project Description
To begin a pilot program introducing an e-book collection for our school, Nathaniel H. Wixon. Utilizing this grant, I will purchase titles and begin an online catalog to enable my students to access resources in multiple formats from both home and school. This money will go directly to purchasing titles, mostly nonfiction, with a license that enables multiple users at the same time. This will support classroom use of this resource. These titles support the Common Core Standards.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
When successful, the statistics will show a gradual increase in book checkouts throughout the year. Classroom teachers will be able to share text with all students in a class in multiple languages. This will increase inclusiveness of lessons allowing all students simultaneous access of resources. Special education teachers will be able to have students listen to text while it is being highlighted on their iPad. More students will have access to reading materials that support their learning at their reading level. This will increase student comprehension and competencies. I will work will all of the classroom and special education teachers throughout the project. Feedback on student usage will be evaluated using test scores, project outcomes and student interviews.

Benefit to the students and the school
These resources would impact our school by encouraging all our students to read. Reading levels will improve which will impact learning in all curriculum areas; increased proficiency in reading will increase our student’s confidence.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
At the end of this pilot, in spring of 2020, I will review statistics regarding student and teachers use. This data will enable me and our school to strengthen and grow this project.
