Puppets Alive

Forestdale Elementary School

Project Description

My objective is to develop a love of reading and writing in a dramatic way. Students in second grade work on developing expression, understanding characters – how they act and how we understand them (i.e. gestures) Students are developing a sense of the elements of what makes a good story. My goal is to reach students of all abilities through puppetry to encourage a love of learning while teaching components of the reading, writing, listening and speaking standards Students will be reading puppet shows, writing puppets shows, practicing and critiquing each other and performing their puppet shows in our classroom.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)

The project will be a success if students are working together sharing ideas, writing puppets shows, practicing different voices for different characters, and presenting their puppets shows.  It will be a success if I can reach all my  students – to motivate them to stretch themselves.  Each student has a unique voice – it will be a great vehicle to realize it.

Benefit to the students and the school

The benefit to the students and school is providing a safe place to share their ideas, motivate those reluctant readers/writers- and allow those creative juices to flow!   This project will help   develop a community of learners.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)

This project will be ongoing throughout the year.  They will have opportunities to write and create puppet shows- more sophisticated as the year goes on.
