Project Excel: College Visit

Project Description
Project Excel, the Alternative Education Department at Barnstable High School is designed for students to have an alternate way of receiving their education. This program has transitioned into allowing students who have difficult and challenging situations (academically, behaviorally, emotionally and socially) at Barnstable High School. Project Excel consists of students at the greatest risk of dropping out to students who are moving at an accelerated rate. Students complete their courses online with support from tutors and or attend Cape Cod Community College.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
Funding from the CC5 Mini Grant will provide our students with an engaging opportunity to encourage them to remain in school, graduate, and pursue their future goals.

Benefit to the students and the school
Last year (2018-2019) Project Excel had over 30 students attending Cape Cod Community College as Dual Enrollment students. At least 20 of them have continued their education at Cape Cod Community College to complete their Associates Degree. At least 5 other students went onto another college / university to further their education.

Anticipated Outcomes:
Foster a deeper bond / connection among staff and students.
Encourage students and staff for improved open lines of communication.
Maintain and increase attendance rates for (high needs) students.
Encourage (high needs) students to complete educational career at Barnstable High School.
Support (high needs) students to identify and overcome the difficulties in their life.
Provide (high needs) students with knowledge of the various career opportunities.
Provide (high needs) students with awareness and possibilities of attending college.
Encourage (high needs) students to participate in school-related activities.
