BY Deborah Greenwood

Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School

Project Description
Making Movement with Art will be a workshop for students in the 8th grade that will be an interdisciplinary project that will combine art, physics, math and teamwork. Students will individually interpret the theme of movement using color and shape and make pieces for the mobiles from classroom art supplies and purchased materials. They will work cooperatively in art class with assistance of local artist familiar with the process. They will solve how to balance the pieces as they assemble their mobiles over a 3-4 week period. The mobiles will then installed in the school for all to enjoy.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
The Movement Mobiles will occupy a prominent space in our school and members of the school and local community will have the opportunity to view and respond to the planning, creating and final creative installation both through intermittent postings on the school website and through social media.

Benefit to the students and the school
All students will benefit from experiencing the entire art making process of collaboration and creative problem-solving as both audience and participants in the Movement Mobiles. They will gain appreciation for the exciting experience kinetic sculptures provide. The end result of this installation of mobiles will be appreciated by present and future members of the student body and school community. The interior architecture of our school lends itself to an installation of this type- the vertical space in the main area of the school invites the interaction of such a collaborative work.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
Creation of Movement Mobile components to be started mid January 2018 and completed installation by March 1.
