Light up the Stage!

BY Charles Hollander-Essig

Orleans Elementary School

Project Description

To enhance live performances and make it possible to actually see the performers on stage during a performance. Currently our lighting consists of regular recessed lighting in the ceiling and work lights from the hardware store with 100watt bulbs in them.

Lighting will allow us to properly illuminate participants and add to the overall experience for both the performers and the audience.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)

The project will be evaluated based on audience comments and video recording of performances. To date we have not had any “real” stage lighting for our performances and even a beginning system will be an improvement.

Benefit to the students and the school

Students at Orleans Elementary are very involved in the arts and live performance. In the past we have produced musicals, short plays, concerts and Talent Shows with the students expected to participate. Live performance encourages self-confidence, public speaking and singing, and encourages that “stage presence” we would all like to have when we need it.

We are always amazed and thrilled to find one or two students who we never imagined would “shine” on stage each time we do a performance.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)

This project is an ongoing one that utilizes the equipment for Drama Club plays, Talent Shows, Student “Live” performances and Concerts in the School.
