This project is designed to go with the “Image-Making Within the Writing Process,” which is a dynamic art-and literature based approach to writing. It is designed to support literacy skills in students with diverse learning styles. Each student will publish their own book by being author and illustrator. Each finished book or product will be the result of documented topic research, curriculum based (civil rights/climate change, etc.), collage of colorful expressions representing their chosen themes.
How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
Evaluation will be assessed on facts that will be documented, a story line that is fiction in characters, however research based. Each student will include all story elements and print will match illustrations. A family night of sharing and culmination with assist in the evaluation process.
Benefit to the students and the school
Over a period of time, students will be introduced to different techniques of creating textured paper that will later become story pages of their personally created individual books. The opportunity, that is often rare in education today, to create, enjoy, and have self expression with a finished quality product enables ALL children to be empowered in their own creativeness and embrace the researched world they live in.

Timeline for completion is early spring and completed by mid-June for summer break.
