Human Relations Media Curriculum Update

BY Jodi Kelly

Nauset Regional Middle School

Project Description
Human Relations Media offers evidence based, award winning curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Health. In addition to updating, HRM now has resources specifically on Vaping, which is becoming a public health crisis for our students and other teens around the country. The three curriculum sets this grant will cover are: How to Quit Juuling & Vaping (Interactive DVD and reproducible materials), Straight Talk About Sexting & Messaging (interactive DVD and reproducible materials), and Mind/Body Connection: How Your Emotions Affect Your Health (Interactive DVD and reproducible materials).

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
Success will be measured formatively as students engage in class discussions during lessons and as they show examples of healthy decisions through behavior rehearsal scenarios in class using strategies learned in the lessons. HRM does supply pre/post tests with their curriculum which will also measure success.

Benefit to the students and the school
My ultimate goal and measure of summative success will come when students participate in the district’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey, and the numbers of students engaging in high risk behaviors and exhibiting high levels of stress/depression/anxiety DECREASES over the years.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
These materials will start to be utilized as soon as materials arrive. They will be used with classes for the remaining terms of this school year and repeatedly in upcoming school years.
