Growth Mindset Social Emotional Classroom Library

Project Description
I would like to create a Growth Mindset Read Aloud & Audio Library in my fifth grade classroom this year. Our fifth grade thoughtful thinkers will be able to enjoy Growth Mindset Read Alouds during ELA, Morning Meetings, Snack, and Brain Breaks as uplifting reminders that they can GROW their brains and to be kind to unkind people as they need it the most. These additions to my current Growth Mindset Oasis will be aiding in the students’ focused commitment to their academics. The social-emotional themed stories will provide rich classroom discussion and prompts for journal writing throughout our year together. There is a large percentage of students in my classroom who aren’t typically exposed to Social Emotional themed Read Alouds with the life challenges they are facing. This limited exposure to these types of quality stories means they lack the opportunity to develop the skills needed in today’s classroom communities. My objective is to help build strong social emotional skills this year on team and assist with these lagging skills.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
I will gauge the students’ Social Emotional Growth Mindset through the developing class discussions and journal writing which will ensue from our new Social Emotional Library.

Benefit to the students and the school
This Social Emotional Library will help students build perseverance, determination and self confidence, nevermind crucial friendships at this impressionable age. Using these Read Alouds and the beginnings of an audio library as activators and summarizers will peak the interest of rich classroom discussion.
