Family Fun Math and Engineering Night and Day

Eastham Elementary School

Project Description
The project entails both a day and night aspect. The first day/night will be centered around geometry and physics (the Phys Ed teacher will be a part of the physics portion). During the day the 5th graders will be in charge of the math and engineering stations that the K-4 students are invited to with their classrooms. For the Family Fun night the children will be asked to bring their parents back to show them what they know and how math can be fun and engaging (stations run by the math club). There will be engineering stations that are run by the older students.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
A survey will be given to the parents, teachers and older students to fill out.

Benefit to the students and the school
Another of this projects’ goals is to be able to create fun math activities that can be signed out from the library to connect and engage children and parents together. Also, a math game made by the 5th graders (with input from the teachers) will be provided for each classroom.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
During the day the school population will be invited to participate. The evening will bring the children together with their parents and the math club will run the stations.
