Wareham High School
Project Description
I teach Art technology classes at Wareham High School. Currently we use the computer and mouse to create digital paintings, designs and animation. I have 24 student work stations. With the purchase of the 3 Wacom tablets, you will be giving my students the opportunity to replace the mouse and turn the computer into a digital drawing canvas, which is a more natural way to draw. In the past these tablets have been too cost prohibitive, (I paid $300.00 for the table that I use at home), to consider purchasing for my class room. I am applying for some other grants in the hopes of eventually building a class set of 24. If I am awarded this grant, I will rotate the tablets throughout my class room, giving each student the chance to complete at least 1 project with the new technology. The battery-free, pressure sensitive pen and digital eraser will help my students to draw thicker and thinner lines depending on how hard he or she pushes on the pen. They will be able to use their fingers to navigate, scroll, and zoom their artwork with multi-touch gestures. I feel that the tablets will increase my students productivity and help them make their world a more creative place.
How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
Students will be surveyed and their feedback will be used to help decide the direction for future equipment purchases. Over 1,900 people on Amazon have given this tablet positive reviews.
Benefit to the students and the school
As I stated before, I feel that the tablets will increase my students productivity and help them make their world a more creative place. The tablets are of good quality and design, and should be able to be used by hundreds of students over several years.
Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
Students will be able to use the tablets immediately, and should be able to use the tablets for several classes, for many years.
