Cooking with Science

Wareham Middle School

Project Description

The purpose of this class is to teach science concepts through cooking. Students will be learning proper etiquette, cooperative learning, science and math skills, cooking and healthier eating. One activity was to understand the concept of physical and chemical change by making butter in class. The students would compare butter with and without salt. They would also compare physically making butter to another strenuous activity.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)

Students will be assessed on math/science skills, participation and their knowledge of cooking and etiquette skills.

Benefit to the students and the school

The students are excited about cooking since it was a pilot class. Students are excited about the science of cooking and baking. The children enjoy this class so much that they are waiting to get in!

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)

This project of Science with cooking starts the beginning of the school year and ends when school ends. If awarded the grant money and there is left over funds, the money will be rolled over to the next year and used for new students entering grade 6. Many of the projects I have funded myself.
