Cape Cod Maritime STEM program

BY Gaile Nolan

Hyannis West Elementary School

Project Description
Students will learn what weather, climate, and meteorology are and why our peninsula has unique weather patterns. They will recognize the importance of wind and weather patterns. They will be able to identify wind direction, signs of wind speed, and their connections to erosion. Students will learn and will be able to discuss the effects of human interventions: specifically how well jetties, dredging, and other techniques work.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
The students will be able to question and learn about the Cape Cod environment in which they live.

Benefit to the students and the school
Our school population has limited experience and exposure to the unique maritime culture of Cape Cod. Because of this, they lack an understanding of the direct impact that these mattes have on their personal lives here on Cape Cod.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
