Bibliotherapy Library

Chilmark Middle School

Project Description

To have a library of children’s books on varying levels that address the issues many children are experiencing, including, anger, fear, restlessness, reminders of being kind, how to be a good friend, how to make friends, how to keep friends, how to be a good student, etc.

How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)

Children seem to understand a lesson better when it is about someone else or a character instead of focusing on
themselves.  If children improve by reading these stories, or by having them read to them then they can be used for all children to reinforce these issues.

Benefit to the students and the school

Our hope is that students will make better choices, and think before acting after practicing roles based on these stories they have read.  If it changes a few students, then maybe they will change a few more students, etc.  Books can be utilized with individuals, small groups, or classrooms as needed.

Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)

Once books are ordered and arrived they will be used for the remainder of this year, and then for many years to come.  Here are some sites with samples of what we are looking for.
