The goal of this project to illustrate the abundance of adaptations that organisms undergo. Plant adaptations are special features that allow a plant or animal to live in a particular place or habitat. These adaptations might make it very difficult for the plant to survive in a different place. This explains why certain plants are found in one area, but not in another. This supports biology in a unique and interesting way.
How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
Students will be able to answer the following questions:
What is a defense mechanism?
How do they acquire nutrients?
How do they take in or deflect water in arid conditions or in a rainforest?
Benefit to the students and the school
This brings investigatory science to life in an engaging way. Children will first create their won imaginary adaptations first through writing (ELA) then by building models (Science/technology). Students will keep journals of the plant adaptions and build a terrarium environments.
Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
February 2017-June 2017
Grades K through 4 meet with Farmer Stephanie every other week for 50 minutes from the last week in February to mid June.
