Oak Ridge School
Project Description
I am asking for funds to repaint the badly worn out maps of the United States and Cape Cod that are on the sidewalk at the entrance of the Forestdale School in Sandwich. With this project, I will ask the assistance of 6th graders from the newly consolidated Oak Ridge School to repaint the sidewalk maps as part of a community service project. My goals would be to beautify Forestdale School (now a pre-K through 2 school) while encouraging cooperation and team work from the older students. I expect to ensure participants to include a mixture of students who had attended each of the three Sandwich elementary schools last year (Wing, Forestdale,or Oak Ridge Schools) and because of the reconfiguration (Grades 3-6), are now all Oak Ridge students.
How will the project be evaluated (e.g. how will you gauge its success)
The 750 students, their families, and the staff of the Forestdale School will be delighted with the colorful renewal to their entrance sidewalk. The maps will be used for Geography and Social Studies lessons for the young students. The activity of painting the sidewalk will be a rewarding experience for the student painters who will have fun, contribute to their community, and form bonds by working together.
Benefit to the students and the school
The students of the Forestdale School will pass by these beautiful maps several times a day. They will be a welcoming sight to all who come to the Forestdale School. Teachers will bring their students to the maps and explore the United States and the towns of Cape Cod.
Timeline of Project (when will you do the project, if applicable)
We will complete the project in the Spring of 2016, over a 4 day period of dry weather, not necessarily all days in a row. The student painters will meet after the dismissal of the school day.
